There was a trend in the sixties for little sketches to be made of the action at the drags and other sporting events. Here are a few from 63-64. The quality of the sketches ranges from good to excellent. Some were reproduced very small, but enlarge well. Then there's Monster art. Much cruder, unfortunately reproduced so small in the mags, virtually impossible to scan. Have got a few though, so here is my little collection of 60's art. |

Unsigned, excellently observed sketch of typical between rounds preparation.
Again unsigned, probably the same artist, again nicely observed. Note hemi engine and pre-zoomie headers.
This one from the talented Steve Swaja.
Cruder quickie sketch, proportions of T-Bird are spot on however.
Another quickie, captures the frantic action well though.
Must have been quick with the pencil to catch this 34 before the wheels come back to earth!
Commercial art, this drawing of the mooneyes dragster was available as a print or poster. Monster Art
From the Hawk range of stickers and other paraphernalia. Ever suffered from brake fade? This is how it feels!
Another from the Hawk range.
One of my favourites.. "Suburban Daddy".. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a model of this in a shop window when I was a kid. |
